BRILLIANT ENTREPRENEURSHIP HOSTS
BOOTCAMP 2016

UOIT Brilliant Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with Spark Centre, delivered a 3-day Bootcamp program for UOIT Student Entrepreneurs with ideas in the Information-Technology & Media industry.  With the support of experienced advisors and catalyst tools, this intensive 3-day program provided participants with the full entrepreneurial process.  From the high of creating an idea to the challenge of execution, these entrepreneurs experienced all aspects of a Start-up company.

Top companies were awarded with cash prizes of up to $2,000, placement in the 2016 Brilliant Summer Incubator Program and in-kind services.

The event took place on February 16th-18th at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.  The 2016 Bootcamp featured 5 teams with over 20 in attendance.  Teams were formed after the first day and comprised of students from different faculties, with different sets of entrepreneurial skills, all working together to form one great business idea that they would later pitch to a panel of judges.  The judges panel included Jodi Glover (CEO & Co-Founder - Real Tech Inc.), John Hayden (Manager, Enterprise Programs - Northumberland CFDC) and Steve Rose (Associate Dean, Faculty of Business & IT, UOIT).

"A big aspect of the Brilliant Bootcamp is connecting with other students who are brimming with creative ideas. Without this opportunity I would not have met my teammates, nor had the chance to work on a real-world solution to a relevant problem.” – Benson Naman, 2016 Brilliant Bootcamp participant

Below, Benson Naman, Ahmad Touseef (Founder) and Desai Sagar were the winning team with their company "Integrity Browser" and were awarded with the grand prize of $2,000.  Integrity Browser is an artificially intelligent web browser that stops cheating in online courses. It acts like an invigilator: it monitors the student by ‘seeing’ through a webcam and ‘hearing’ via audio to detect any pre-defined academic misconducts, such as reading off external notes, talking to peers to get answers, peeking at cheating aids, etc.

"I really liked getting advice from the judges. It was outstanding to get feedback and constructive criticism from industry professionals." - Ahmad Toussef, 2016 Brilliant Bootcamp participant

Below,  Spencer Greenway (Co-Founder) Max Polubiec (Co-Founder) and Reza Karami were the second place team with their company "Mager Cleaning Service" and were awarded with $1,000.  Mager Cleaning Service is a digital marketplace mobile application that matches students who want convenient and inexpensive cleaning services with other students seeking on-demand flexible employment.

“The most valuable aspect of the Bootcamp was the chance to present to the judges, listen to their questions and get their feedback.” - Spencer Greenway, 2016 Brilliant Bootcamp participant

Jodi Glover, one of the judging panelists, provided an inspirational final day keynote on her entrepreneurial journey as well as the importance of perspective that all Entrepreneurs must have.

The event was a great success with innovative ideas being created, opportunities given to grow these ideas through in-kind services and hands-on experience of what it takes to become a Start-up company.  Thank you to all participants, we look forward to next year!
